Aultrawines & Vinyl #2
Welcome to Aultrawines & Vinyl episode #2 #aultrawinesandvinyl showcasing my favourite #wines and #vinyls 🎧🎵
The Wine:
This is the 2011 @diamond_creek_vineyards Red Rock Terrace #cabernetsauvignon from the Diamond Mountain AVA in the north-western section of Napa Valley, California. #diamondcreek #californianwine
First planted in 1968, Al and Boots Brounstein were pioneers of the modern Napa Valley wine industry. Sitting within a special micro-climate, which results in a longer and cooler growing season, DC produce wonderful and exclusive wines. This is really a long celebration of unique site-driven Cabernet Sauvignon winemaking. Red Rock Terrace is north-facing and sits on iron rich, red rocky soil of about 7 acres. The other distinct Single-Vineyard locations on the estate are Volcanic Hill, Gravelly Meadow and Lake.
This is an exceptionally high quality and concentrated wine from a serious producer. 2011 is noted as a difficult year in Napa Valley (only 1200 cases were produced due to a cold and rainy season), however the mountain areas tend to do much better in the colder years. A wonderful nose and full of fresh fruit on the palate, smooth and integrated. If only I could drink a glass like this every night. Incredible. Needless to say, extremely difficult to find availability on these shores. Hopefully one day I will also get the opportunity to visit their beautiful estate!
Rating: AW97 🍷🇺🇸
The Vinyl:
This is the debut studio album from @chrisstapleton “Traveller” released in 2015.
It’s cool country and real guitar song writing, with a soulful voice. Chris moved to Nashville 20 years ago to pursue his musical career and has also co-written songs with JT (notably, “Say Something”) and John Mayer.
Traveller is a grown-up album and it gets pretty raw at times, but there are often lighter and more self-reflective moments. There is a great verse in “Nobody to Blame” that goes like this: “She fired up my old hot rod, ran it in the pond, put sugar in my John Deere, I can't even mow my lawn. And I got nobody to blame but me, I got nobody to blame but me…”
Favourite tracks: Nobody to Blame, Parachute, Tennessee Whiskey.
